ICE is trying to set up concentration camps in our communities - but we will fight them with every tool we have. Sign here to ask your elected officials to enact laws that would prevent local governments from rolling out the red carpet for ICE.

Since 2008, Orange County has welcomed ICE with open arms, so it is no surprise that ICE has built a kingdom of kidnapping and terror throughout the whole Hudson Valley based in Orange County. We have to change that now. ICE should no longer expect that Orange County or its localities will be an easy place to continue and expand their campaign of unlawfully detaining our neighbors.

Orange County and its cities, towns, and villages should each pass laws that:

• Prevent property owned by county or local governments from being used as or converted to immigration detention facilities;

• Prohibit modifying local infrastructure capacity (including roadways, sewage systems, or water distribution systems) for the construction, development, or operation of an immigration detention facility;

• Implement required public disclosures before considering issuing a permit for an immigrant detention facility on private property, such as the ratio of medical staff to prisoners and the track record of any service providers who will be contracted for the facility. This would be in addition to the new requirements of a 180-day public comment period and two public hearings now required by New York law.

By enacting a denial of services, Orange County and its towns and cities can refuse to accommodate ICE as they seek more places to lock up our neighbors. Without modifications to roads, permits to add large amounts of wastewater to what had been merchandise warehouses, and additional supply of potable water, ICE's expansion can be blocked or delayed.

ICE is counting on spending our tax dollars to build out this infrastructure, and it is up to us to deny them that opportunity.
